Volkswagen is one of the youngest car makers in India having been launched only in 2007. Among the models manufactured locally are Passat, Jetta, Polo, and Vento and those that are available in the Indian market but are imported as built products are Touareg, New Beetle, and Phaeton. Volkswagen literally means "peoples car" in German and this comes for a reason. Production of Volkswagen cars was initiated to provide the middle and lower class an opportunity to avail themselves of a car that has good quality and comes with an affordable price they could make installments on. The humble beginnings of Volkswagen made it as an item in the car manufacturing industry.

Everybody has seen the trademark of Volkswagen Cars and everybody has seen or heard of the Beetle. Volkswagen became not just a name, but more importantly, it became a symbol of an effort to achieve economic equality. As a car maker, Volkswagen presents quality products but with very affordable prices. Despite this, Volkswagen was also affected by the economic trends of rise and fall. The designs of the famous Beetle are now appealing and the edges became smoother. This made Beetle not just a car but an item in the roads.

In spite of the challenges that Volkswagen had to face in its production of economy cars, it was able to press on and now is well on its way to producing cars that can compete in quality and style with the other giant car companies. Although Volkswagen is constantly thriving in the American and other foreign markets, it remains as the largest carmaker in Europe and ranks third worldwide. The sales of Volkswagen still consistently competed with its rivals in the car manufacturing industry. Its main markets include Germany and China. The reason why Volkswagen thrives in other countries is because of the various vehicle regulations present in different areas but it remarkably makes it a point to come up with innovations to face these challenges head on and keep itself way up to where it is right now. Thus, Volkswagen capitalizes on its major markets and produces the bulk of its sales from countries where it is already established as a car manufacturer. But it nevertheless engaged in expansion opportunities by extending its services to other countries. One of these countries it explored is India. 

Volkswagen may have gone through a series of re-modeling but it continued to stay focused and now has factories in many parts of the world to prove that it pressed on and is continuing to expand even further. It has an aim to provide quality and affordable cars after all, a growing demand of interested car buyers. Currently, it is one of the top twenty-five largest companies, a price it earned for perseverance and the determination to stay on top.
