Mahindra & Mahindra was previously engaged in building commercial vehicles & has earned a good name in that segment. Same loose hole was found before launching Mahindra Thar. With the launch of this SUV, Mahindra has revived an old category, for the vehicles, by the name Off Road Vehicles. Mahindra Thar is an incredible machine for General mass. Taking you few years back, only Gypsy from the hood of Maruti Suzuki had made its presence in this segment.
Take a look at Thar & from every angle it will give you the dominating look. Its front look, with the circular head lamps & cage like grille, takes us in some previous century. These features will surely keep Mahindra Thar away from the others. It seems that Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to bring the age old fashion back to the present century & this is clearly depicted from the design of the indicators, which are placed on the fenders. As like other cars, the symbol of the company has not been carved out of the metal, instead the company name has been written, just below the perpendicular windshield & on the front bumper, which comes with a horizontal platform designed to give some functionality.
To open the hood of Thar, you don’t need to press or pull any button, but you have to open it by removing the clamps, present on both the sides of the hood. Size of the windshield is also very small as compared to the present day SUV’s or MUV’s & as per the size of the glass, wipers have been used. But the best feature with this windshield is that it can be folded down. On viewing it from the sides of Mahindra Thar, the semi circular rear wheel arches & the angular front wheel arches, which have been placed at a comfortable distance from the tyres, are black in color. The hood portion & the rear part has borrowed some more space from the cabin, as on viewing from the sides, it appeared to us that the space for the front row passengers is comparatively less, as when compared with the hood & rear portion. Height of Thar is also good & footsteps have been provided to board the car.
Thar is not very much fuel efficient. With its 60 liter tank capacity, it can take its passengers up to 660 km, but in this case it has to be driven on 2WD mode. If we talk about 4WD mode then it will travel less kilometers in the same amount of fuel. Overall Mahindra Thar is a SUV which can be taken to any place, from any landscape ranging from hills to a sub urban lounge.
