R Seshasayee Awarded the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal For Industrial and Social Peace By XLRI

Chennai, March 29, 2008: Mr R Seshasayee, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland, was today awarded the prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace by XLRI, Jamshedpur at their 52nd Annual Convocation.

Mr. Seshasayee has served as the President of CII for the year 2006-07 and has been Chairman of several national committees of CII. He has also served in the capacity of Director on the Boards of various public companies, including ICICI Bank and EID Parry India Ltd. He has been the President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex body representing the automobile industry in India during the period 2001 - 03.

He has represented the country as a member of the Government of India delegation to the Doha Ministerial Round of WTO in 2001 and the Hong Kong Ministerial at Hong Kong in 2005, apart from having made his presence felt on several Government Committees, including the JJ Irani Committee on Company Law,.

Mr. Seshasayee is now the Non-Executive Chairman of IndusInd Bank. He is also associated with several charitable, educational, cultural and social welfare organizations.

As Managing Director of Ashok Leyland, the flagship of the Hinduja Group in India, Mr. Seshasayee has spear-headed the Company’s growth, expansion and forays into diverse areas.

The Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal was instituted by XLRI in 1966 and previous recipients of the Medal include illustrious names from diverse fields including Mr. J R D Tata, Mr. Arvind Mafatlal, Mr. Holck-Larsen, Mr. Rajmohan Gandhi, Mr. V R Krishna Iyer, Mr. S Moolgaonkar, Justice P N Bhagwati, Mr. V Kurien, Mr. Keshub Mahindra, Mr. P A Sangma, Mr. Jyoti Basu, Mr. N A Palkhivala, Mr. J N Godrej, Mr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Mr. M S Banga and Mr. K V Kamath.
