Tokyo, May 27, 2008: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced production, sales and export figures for April 2008. Production Nissan’s global production in April increased 23.9% year-on-year to 296,760 units, marking an all-time record for the month of April. Export models Rogue, Murano and Infiniti G sedan and coupe boosted domestic production to 98,873 units, exceeding the previous year by 42.3%. Overseas production grew 16.3% year-on-year to 197,887 units, making a record production month for plants worldwide.
Sales In Japan, Nissan’s vehicle registrations in April grew 11.5% year-on-year to 34,549 units. The Dualis, X-Trail, Note and Tiida were significant contributors. The company’s share of the domestic market registrations in April was up 0.6 percentage points year-on-year to 14.8%.
Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were down 5.9% from the pervious year to 8,702 units.
Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 43,251 units in Japan, up 7.5% year-on-year. The company’s share rose 0.5 percentage points to 11.7%.
Global sales increased 9.1% year-on-year to 293,674 units.
Sales of new vehicles in the U.S. rose 6.7%* to 75,855 units compared to the previous year. Demand for the Rogue, Infiniti G37 coupe, Altima and Versa continues to be strong.
In Europe, sales dropped 5.7% year-on-year to 45,250 units. However, the Qashqai, X-Trail and Tiida remain strong while sales in Eastern Europe have risen particularly in Russia and Ukraine.
Sales in other regions were up 17.7% from the previous year to 103,943 units.
*U.S. sales: -1.6% after equivalent adjustment for actual days of selling in April.
Exports from Japan Nissan’s exports in April increased 63.6% to 67,110 units compared to the previous year.
Exports to North America grew 150.5% year-on-year to 28,177 units.
Exports to Europe rose 9.0% to 7,851 units compared to the year prior.
In other regions, exports to the Middle East were up 52.3% year-on-year to 10,111 units, whilst those to Latin America fell 4.1% year-on-year to 6,695 units.
