Nissan Motor with BTIC launched Star Wings

Tokyo, July 31, 2007: Star Wings an innovative prototype has been launched by Nissan Motor company together with Beijing Transportation Information center. To ease the elevated congestion this project has been initiated.

It is a very intelligent transportation system which allows vehicle to infrastructure communication. Various tests have been conducted regarding the same to show that ITS was able to cut down on commute times by an average of 20%.

The system of Telematics has been employed to deliver the data to the drivers navigation monitor. The system helps drivers in Beijing to avoid the most congested roads and contributes towards easing traffic conditions in the city.

Test drive and demonstration of the system would be done by the company people at the ITS world conference.

Beijing Olympic Game in 2008 is the time decided by the companies to implement ITS. The company also intends to incorporate this system in the taxi network.

BTIC represents one of the largest probe data systems in the world, with information collected from about 10,000 taxis. In Japan, Nissan implemented the probe data system in it’s ITS test program by receiving probe data from taxis in Yokohama city, starting in September 2006.
