Germany, April 29, 2006: MAN, a name not heard many a times but is power house for Commercial vehicles. The N in MAN stands for Nuremberg. It’s a German Conglomerate producing parts for commercial vehicles, steel mills, refineries, diesel engines of every size etc. Man has a large work force of 3500 employees. The plant builds every single engine that goes into a MAN truck, including the famous 1,500 bhp D28 and the 140 to 326 bhp D08 series and a few CNG engines as well.
Recently it has entered in a joint venture with Force Motors, a Pune based company at pithampur near Indore. This would generate 24000 vehicles annually including 16 to 49 tonne trucks used for mining purposes. The plant is all set to be inaugurated tomorrow.
MAN has captured various markets by its commercial vehicles that touch Europe, Australia but the facility at Vienna is a huge set up. It deals in jumbo sized 40 tonners which are used to transport men and machines by armed forces throughout the world.
MAN Nutzfahrzeuge took over Steyr trucks in 1990 and have been using the factory to build light and medium sized trucks, the ones that are between 18 to 42 tonnes — some of which will soon be seen on Indian roads.
Walking on the Steyr assembly line, Force motors is all set to give a new definition to Indian trucks. Features like double cabs, electronic driving aids, exhaust braking system, revolutionary engines are being provided to the new range of trucks.
Due to the lurk response from Chinese market, MAN is now trying its potential in India. Keeping in mind the quality they plan to export 12000 trucks next year. This new venture will change the scenario of trucks on Indian roads.
