New Delhi, April 17, 2007: A new car has been introduced in the segment of small cars by General motors today i.e. Chevrolet Spark. It has a 1000 cc petrol engine and is coming up in four models.

The major competitors of Chevrolet Spark are Maruti Zen Estilo and Hyundai Santro. The price difference between Zen and Spark is of Rs. 12000.

The chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner of General Motors Corp. said, “We have not been represented in the small car market in India and we want to increase our presence in this segment, which is the fastest growing segment in the country. He said the small car segment is critical for the company’s growth in India and introducing Spark, one of GM’s most successful models worldwide, was a part of the company’s growth strategy.”

Initially the company is planning to sell 2000-3000 units of Chevrolet Spark in a month in its Halol facility in Gujarat. The car has been rolled out at a price of Rs. 3.09 lakhs.
