Mumbai, August 29, 2006: After showing terrific performance in two wheeler and three wheeler segment, Bajaj Auto is now planning to enter the four wheeler segment.
Mr. Sanjiv Bajaj, the executive director of Bajaj Auto said, “It’s a logical extension for our existing product portfolio to go from three-wheelers into four-wheeler light commercial vehicles as that is the way the market is headed. The timings are also right as cities are getting more crowded and the hub and spoke model for transport is gaining currency. The need for smaller vehicles has been recognized.”
Bajaj Auto is following the same lines as Tata Motors light truck Ace. It is setting up a plant in Chakan in 250 acres and making and investment of Rs. 1000 crores for the same.
The coming vehicle with be designed with a fresh look, better facilities and a low price. This would obviously add on to its launch and sales. Looking at the demand of such vehicles, it will also be exported to other developing countries.
Other vehicles of the company is three wheeler segment will be in production simultaneously.
